The entertaining collection were composed individually, and for a variety of purpose - some were congratulatory messages for well-known fellow musicians such as Elliott Carter or Thomas Demenga, but some were just composed while waiting at a bus stop! Hence, the pieces can be played either as effective encore pieces.
