One of Australia’s best-known composers, Ross Edwards’ distinctive sound world combines shapes and patterns from nature with a variety of musical resources which reflect and celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity. The Prelude is a trance-like reverie with fragmentary marimba dialogue and near-subliminal droning of Japanese temple bells. It is intended as a mind-clearing preparation for the rhythmic, darting, delicately exuberant Dragonfly Dance.
