Kaija Saariaho’s Song for Betty is an arrangement of the last movement from her opera L’amour de loin and was an 80th birthday gift for Betty Freeman, who very generously supported the commission of the opera. It was first performed on 18th May 2001, by Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
